Five key moments that propelled Pakistan to Champions Trophy glory

Fakhar Zaman century helps Pakistan set record run chase against India

It was built on a tremendous stand for the opening wicket - with India's first breakthrough not until the 23rd over when Pakistan had already amassed 128 runs.

He celebrated with an extravagant twirl of his bat and kissed the turf as the Pakistan supporters sensed an unlikely win.

His opening five overs - the first nine in their reply - left India 33-3.

What a difference two weeks have made, though, Fakhar delivering at every attempt after being brought in for his debut at the age of 27 and Amir's pace and swing proving too good here for Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan - who could add only 26 runs between them to the 895 they had made over the previous four matches.

Amir, who missed Pakistan's semi-final win over England with a back spasm, had taken two wickets for four runs in eight balls and India were six for two.

India managed just two more runs before the final wicket sparked wild scenes in South London.

India were then routed for 158 in the 31st over.

Inspired by a century from rookie Fakhar Zaman and a thrilling match-winning bursts of fast bowling from Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali, the men in green stormed to only their second ICC global 50-overs title.

Everything that could go wrong, did do wrong for India as Pakistan silenced their critics, gave their fans a pleasant surprise, and handed India a thumping 180-run defeat to clinch their maiden ICC Champions Trophy title at The Oval in London on Sunday.

Mohammad Hafeez whacked 57 not out off 37 balls, Babar Azam 46, and Imad Wasim 25 not out, as the last 10 overs netted 91 runs, giving Pakistan's bowlers - its strength - an impressive total to defend.

Jadeja nicked Junaid Khan to slip for 15, Hasan had Ashwin caught by Sarfraz and Hasan forced Bumrah to lob another catch to the wicketkeeper, who pouched it gleefully to complete Pakistan's first Champions Trophy win with 19.3 overs to spare.

But taking his second chance he embarked on an electrified charge which wrenched the game back in Pakistan's favour.

Fakhar ought to have been out for 3 in the fourth over, caught behind, but Jasprit Bumrah delivered a no ball. The victory was achieved by one of the most de-glamorous outfit under one of the most unassuming captains in the history of Pakistan cricket Sarfraz and he deserved it more than anyone else for showing the composure one expects from model captains.

On Zaman, he said: "He's a great impact player, in his first ICC event, he played like a champion, he can be a great player for Pakistan. Hopefully we can have a good performance". But just when it seemed that he was blazing towards a first worldwide century, he was run out after a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja.

Yuvraj, despite that cover drive of his, never looked at ease at the crease and was trapped before the wickets before Hasan Ali got the better of MS Dhoni.
