Grenfell Tower fire: Queen calls national mood 'very sombre'

"Sadly at this time, there are 58 people who we have been told were in Grenfell Tower on the night that are missing and therefore sadly I have to assume that they are dead", a police spokesman told reporters.

"We know that at least 30 people have died as a result of this fire", said Commander Stuart Cundy, adding that the figure was expected to rise. Earlier the police figured the death toll at 30.

Plans for the minute's silence were announced just hours after Prime Minister Theresa May admitted that the support for Grenfell Tower victims in the wake of the fire 'wasn't good enough'.

Separately, hundreds of protesters stormed the local town hall chanting: "We want justice". The Independent reports that Saye posted to Facebook at 3 am Wednesday that she and her mother were trapped in their apartment, and asked people to pray for them. Al Manar, a mosque in North Kensington where Grenfell Tower is located, has cancelled i'tikaaf (retreat in a mosque during Ramzan) so that victims can stay there.

"I am now pleased to say that as of this afternoon we are now back in Grenfell tower".

"We are ensuring that within three weeks people will be rehoused so that they have a home to go to".

They said he was a "very wonderful and kind person" who "came to the United Kingdom because he had ambitions and aims for his life and for his family".

"Everyone affected by this tragedy needs reassurance that the Government is there for them at this awful time - and that is what I am determined to provide".

British Prime Minister Theresa May promised victims of a London fire that left at least 30 dead that a five-million-pound ($6.5 million) support package would be created, the media reported.

"However there may be other people who were in there on the night, but others may not have been aware were there".

Mayor Sadiq Khan was confronted by an angry young boy demanding answers to why a fire broke out in Grenfell Tower.

"I appreciate that the authorities want to be absolutely certain that any information is correct before it is issued publicly, and the fire brigade, police and coroner are doing a heroic job obtaining this information in extremely hard circumstances", Sadiq Khan said.

The Queen met with volunteers, and expressed her sympathies to families of victims of the blaze.
