McCartney, Rowling promoted in the queen's Birthday Honors

A FORMER nurse from Tenby who worked her way to the top of the health board has been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours.

Judy Murray and Heather Stanning are among the leading sporting figures to be honoured in the Queen's Birthday Honours list.

Also recognised for his bravery was Bernard Kenny, the passer-by who was knifed in the stomach as he tried to protect murdered MP Jo Cox from her Neo-Nazi killer.

Billy Connolly, who has been awarded a Knighthood in the Queen's Birthday Honours List.

Ed Sheeran is set to receive an MBE.

The 72-year-old is also a former chairman of the Pewsey Carnival Committee and to this day continues to take informal positions to ensure the carnival is a roaring success.

Those receiving British Empire Medals include Biggleswade's Ken Harvey, responsible for children with disabilities at Central Bedfordshire Council, who has been recognised for services to children and young people.

Sir Paul McCartney is upgraded with a Companion of Honour for services to music, alongside JK Rowling for services to literature and philanthropy.

McCartney, Rowling promoted in the queen's Birthday Honors

The man who led Britain's women's hockey team to Olympic gold in Rio de Janeiro past year, Danny Kerry, has been named a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE).

On Twitter he said: "Honoured and proud to receive an OBE today".

Her book, "Mum, can you lend me twenty quid?', describes the story of her twin sons" drug addiction, apparent rehabilitation and then the tragic death of one of them through the hand of addiction.

Pam said the MBE trumps most of her medal-winning exploits on the table, though she rates her triumph in the Over-60s event at the first ever European Veterans' Championships in 1995 as arguably her biggest achievement.

Gracehill man James Perry has also been honoured with an MBE.

"Importantly it's recognition for all the brilliant people who work behind the scenes with our national teams and who do such incredible work".

Emeli Sande is made an MBE for services to music.
