Canadian official condemns attack at Bishop airport

Amor Ftouhi (ah-MOOR' fuh-TOO'-ee) is unlikely to be granted bond Wednesday because the charge is serious and he lives outside the U.S.

As Amor Ftouhi was lead into federal court in Flint this morning, he looked directly at a row of reporters and said, "Allahu Akbar", which means "God is great" in Arabic, He repeated the words once more when he sat down. She told a federal judge Wednesday that the 49-year-old defendant from Montreal would be held by USA immigration authorities even if granted bond in the criminal case.

Suspected of stabbing Flint Bishop Airport Police Lt. Jeff Neville in the neck with a large, serrated "Amazon Jungle Survival" knife on Wednesday, June 21, Ftouhi, 49, is detained on a federal criminal complaint of violence at an global airport.

Ftouhi is a native of Tunisia.

Ftouhi will remain in jail while his case proceeds.

Dawkins Davis set the next court appearance for 1:30 p.m. on July 5, saying that it would be a pending trial unless a Grand Jury met before then and chose to indict Ftouhi.

Investigators have not said what brought Ftouhi to Flint.

He also said something to the effect of "You have killed people in Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, and we are all going to die", the complaint said.

After stabbing the officer in the neck, Ftouhi continued to yell, "Allah", several times, the complaint said. Neville underwent surgery and has left the hospital, local media reported.
