Moving Manzanita Fire Burning South of Beaumont Grows to 5000 Acres Overnight

Nearly 1 million more acres had burned by Thursday, compared with the 10-year average through June 22.

In this photo taken Monday, June 26, 2017, smoke plumes from the Manzanita Fire are seen near Beaumont, Ca.

About 1,500 people have been evacuated from the Bear Valley area and the American Red Cross is providing shelter and aid to those evacuees at Panguitch High School in Parowan.

"[We are] watching the fire closely and mopping up, hoping to put out any hot spots that may kick up sparks in the wind", said Fire Information Officer Mitch Zundel. The fire's 10 percent contained and has destroyed more than a dozen cabins and other structures.

A spokesperson for CAL FIRE Riverside stated the cause of the blaze was a single vehicle with fire.

Firefighters in California and Arizona have managed to maintain smaller wildfires that broke out in various areas recently. Mike Noel said Tuesday he wants to use the fire near the ski town of Bri.

Brian Head is a popular destination for Las Vegas locals for skiing and summer hiking with around 1,500 people evacuated so far.

A wildfire in a rugged inland area of Southern California grew substantially overnight to almost 8 square miles (21 sq. kilometers). Winds made conditions more risky for some 500 firefighters assigned to the inferno, and the blaze was just 1 percent contained on Tuesday night.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the collision Sunday caused a tree to catch on fire, beginning a blaze that spread toward the Disney Ranch area.

It's estimated firefighting costs now top $7 million for a fire started June 17 near the Brian Head Resort by someone using a torch tool to burn weeds.

Hundreds of firefighters have been battling the wildfire, facing 100-foot flames along with very dry conditions and winds that have been gusting up to 30 miles per hour, leaving a "high potential" for "extreme" fire behavior, officials said late Monday.

Firefighters were bracing for strong winds Monday as they fought a southern Utah wildfire that's forced more than 1,500 people from homes and cabins as crews in California got a handle on a brush fire that closed a freeway.

The Utah fire is the largest in the nation at 78 square miles (201 square kilometers). He joined several other state and county officials in speaking out. The Frye Fire is about 70 miles northeast of Tucson, the second-largest city in Arizona.

Crews in California, meanwhile, had to deal with two new powerful and fast-growing fires, and Arizona firefighters had to ground aircraft because of unauthorised drones over a blaze near Flagstaff.
