Remnants of Tropical Depression Cindy threaten United States southeast with flooding

Rounds of showers/storms today, heaviest rain arrives later tonight

At this point, it's hard to determine how much, if any, of Cindy's remnants will factor into tri-state weather this weekend, but it appears some rain connected to the tropical storm will soak much of the tri-state region through the first part of the day Friday.

We have one more day, Saturday, of seeing a chance of rain from this system and then we finally begin to dry out.

Heavy rainfall associated with remnants of the storm caused scattered street flooding across central and southern IN on Friday.

The National Weather Service says the Flood Watch will be in effect through 2:00 a.m. on Saturday.

Crews in Memphis, Tennessee, worked Thursday to clear storm drains to help prevent street flooding.

The storms stretching for hundreds of miles (kilometers) are expected to push river levels higher in coming days as the remnants of a tropical storm cross Tennessee and Kentucky into West Virginia.

The West Virginia Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management held briefings for emergency managers statewide Thursday, with another scheduled Friday morning, an official said.

Heavy rain is forecast to begin in West Virginia by late Friday afternoon, with general forecasts of 1-3 inches (25-75 millimeters) and up to 5 inches (125 millimeters) in spots.

Sunday should be the most pleasant day of the weekend, with mostly sunny skies and a high around 80 degrees, Evanego said.

Tropical Storm Cindy made landfall in southwestern Louisiana Thursday morning. Early Friday, high winds also peeled off part of the roof from a high school near South Bend. Nolan McCabe, 10, of St. Louis, Missouri, was vacationing with his family on the Alabama coast when he was hit by a log washed in by a large wave.

Forecasters also are checking damage at other locations in central and southern Alabama to determine whether tornadoes struck there.

The National Weather Service said Tropical Depression Cindy is continuing to produce heavy rain around the Mississippi Valley. Several businesses were damaged and at least four people were hurt.
