Retracted CNN story a boon for president at war with media

Anthony Scaramucci

The article, published by members of the news organization's investigative unit on June 22, connected Scaramucci, Donald Trump's transition team-era assistant to the president, with a Russian investment fund.

The new restrictions come after CNN on Friday retracted a story that connected, a prominent ally of President, to a Russian investment fund managed by a Kremlin-controlled bank.

CNN said the story did not meet its editorial standards and was retracted and the links to the story were disabled.

Today, the President went on another rant on Twitter this morning against the network after three of their journalist resigned following the retraction of a story related to Trump's links to Russian Federation.

Despite that, the network accepted the resignations Monday of reporter Thomas Frank and "CNN Investigates" editors Eric Lichtblau and Lex Haris.

Across pro-Trump media, pundits and reporters jumped on the incident as an example of the network's lack of credibility and repeated claims oft-repeated by President Donald Trump that the network was "fake news".

"Wow, CNN had to retract big story on 'Russia, '" Mr. Trump wrote early Tuesday.

Three CNN journalists resigned following a retracted report on the Senate's Russian Federation investigation.

Trump tweeted that "they caught Fake News CNN cold".

"Scaramucci tweeted: "@CNN did the right thing.

"I think, if it's accurate, it's a disgrace to all of media and to all of journalism", Sanders said. Three high-ranking journalists at the network resigned. The story was disputed the following day by Anthony Scaramucci, one of the associates named in the report, who pushed back against the article. "Ratings way down!" he tweeted Tuesday morning.

"Maybe Jeff Zucker should do an on-camera press briefing about CNN's fake news scandal before the White House does any more of them".

By the afternoon, Trump's deputy press secretary, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, was on live television scolding the White House press corps over the retraction, even urging Americans to watch a video filmed by a controversial right-wing activist, James O'Keefe, that showed a low-level CNN producer criticizing his network.

Worse yet, members of the Trump administration are "high-fiving each other over Anthony's success in embarrassing CNN".

A representative for the network did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday morning. "Everyone makes mistakes. Moving on".
