Taoiseach to meet DUP, Sinn Féin delegations separately in Dublin

UK to Agree Brexit Divorce Bill Before Trade Talks

May is negotiating with the DUP, in an effort to ensure the Northern Ireland party backs her Conservatives in the House of Commons, where she does not have a majority, having failed to win an overall majority following the snap election she called, June 8. Yet at no point since the referendum has the British government seemed less prepared and less sure about what Brexit should actually entail.

The details of the partnership between the two parties were due to be announced on Wednesday but were put on hold because of the fire that engulfed a London housing tower, killing 17 people.

Northern Ireland's political parties are reopening talks aimed at restoring devolution to the region.

The Good Friday Agreement or Belfast Agreement, was a major political development in the Northern Ireland peace process of the 1990s.

Sinn Féin leader Gerry Adams also led a party delegation including its leader in the North, Michelle O'Neill, for a first meeting on Northern Ireland with the new Taoiseach.

If the talks fail it may bring back direct rule from London which after all the good work of the Good Friday Agreement and the time both Sinn Fein and the DUP shared power together would be a complete shame. But its influence with Westminster could easily hamper Mrs May's government from functioning as an impartial guarantor during power-sharing negotiations.

In this grab taken from video, Britain's Prime Minister Theresa May. Other politicians have voiced their concern as well.

The DUP and Sinn Fein are taking part in Thursday's talks at Downing Street, along with smaller parties.

One European diplomat in London said the political upheaval was such that it was hard to know what to write back to his capital, pouring scorn on May's campaign slogan of "strong and stable leadership". "I have no problem with 10 MPs from here bolstering the Conservatives - though it's not a party I'd vote for - I just would like a bit of assurance that our Good Friday agreement was protected".

Nearly half of voters are not in favour of a Tory-DUP deal to keep Theresa May's Government alive, according to a new poll. "It's not certain, it's under stress, it's fragile".

"The last thing anybody wishes to see is one or other of the communities so aggrieved that the hard men, who are still there lurking in the corners of the community, decide that they wish to return to some form of violence". If the DUP get a deal for the benefit of all the people in Northern Ireland, that should be welcomed.

However, the Northern Ireland Executive and the Scottish Government have declined to publish Ms Foster's letter. What would be helpful is if the DUP, given where it now finds itself, was aggressively clear about what Brexit and Border it wants served when dining with the Conservatives.

The former Northern Ireland First Minister said her meeting with Mr Varadkar was very good and that she was looking forward to a very positive relationship with the Irish premier.

A YouGov poll for The Times suggested the public are not happy with the plan either, with 48 per cent saying they had an unfavourable view of it.

But Ms Clancy pointed out that the reasons Sinn Fein withdrew from talks have yet to be addressed.
