Tebow ends 1st half of his 1st pro season with 3 strikeouts

Brosher's homer leads Columbia to 4-1 win over Charleston

Tim Tebow's baseball career will probably always be overshadowed by his football career, but that comes with the territory of being a Heisman-winning quarterback turned NFL bust turned minor league baseball player.

Blake Rutherford hit a run-scoring double in the sixth inning, leading the Charleston RiverDogs to a 5-1 win over the Columbia Fireflies on Sunday.

The Fireflies stumbled on Saturday but still remain a half game in front of the Greenville Drive with just one game left in the first half of the season.

Needing a win to ensure the first half title and a playoff spot, Columbia (40-28) jumped out to an early advantage, collecting three straight hits in the first before Dash Winningham plated his 46th of the year with a sacrifice fly. When members of Tebow's team, the Columbia Fireflies, were up to bat, Charleston put a graphic behind each player's picture that should be immediately recognizable to SEC fans.

The Fireflies are back in action for game two of their three-game series against the Charleston RiverDogs on Saturday night. He also walked twice. Tebow lost the grip on the bat and sent it soaring deep into the second level seats on the first base side of the stands.

Tebow then grabbed a new bat and dutifully struck out.
