Accord 2018 - First 10-Speed Transmission FWD sedan, Launched In US

2018 Honda Accord is here, now as Mark 10

With an all-new design as well as mechanicals, this is the tenth-generation model of the popular Honda Accord. A new hybrid will also be offered with a 2.0L Atkinson cycle engine with over 40% thermal efficiency.

It's therefore a pretty big deal when such a successful model undergoes a major restyle, and Honda has probably gone a little further with its recently unveiled 2018 Accord than some commentators may have expected. The main novelty is the new 10-speed automatic transmission, but again with the Sport you can bundle the six-speed manual.

According to a January report from Busines Insider, the Honda Accord is the ninth best-selling auto in the United States, with 345,225 Accords sold to Americans in 2016 alone.

The company says its new 2-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine is actually more powerful than the previous V-6, generating 252 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. Full details on the new 2018 Accord can be found here. The latter option produces 26 less horsepower than the 3.5-liter V6 it replaces but makes 21 more lb./ft. of torque that the New York Daily News claims is more evenly spread-out across the Accord's rev range.

The wheelbase has been elongated in the 2018 model by 50mm and the width has also been increased by 10mm, while the roofline is lower by 15mm.

The safety systems will include Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Departure Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control, and Blind Sport Monitoring with Cross Traffic and Driver Awareness Monitors.

The delivery of the 2018 model is expected to start in the U.S. soon; however, it is not expected to replace the Indian model anytime soon since the last model was just launched a year ago.

Accords potentially affected by this issue include all models manufactured between 2013 and 2016.
