DeAngelo Williams Calls Dave Gettleman a 'Snake', Says He'd Play for Panthers

Carolina Panthers fire GM Dave Gettleman in shocking move

The Panther's training camp starts next week.

Just two years removed from a Super Bowl appearance, the Carolina Panthers made a decision to fire general manager Dave Gettleman.

The Carolina Panthers on Monday announced that Dave Gettleman has been "relieved of his duties" as GM.

Panthers owner Jerry Richardson said the decision was not easy and took much thought. Overall, Gettleman has been a part of seven Super Bowl teams, including three winners.

"I want to thank Dave for the role he played in our success over the past four seasons", Richardson said.

Here's the context behind this tweet: Smith spent 13 National Football League seasons with the Panthers from 2001 to 2013, establishing himself as arguably the most important player in franchise history. The Panthers had won the NFC South his first three years at the helm. Among them: cutting star wideout Steve Smith before the 2014 season and running back DeAngelo Williams in 2015, then allowing cornerback Josh Norman to become a free agent in 2016 after rescinding the franchise tag.

Despite those pleas, some of which got awfully intense, Norman is only entering the second year of a five-year contract with the Redskins and should remain in the Burgundy and Gold for a while.

One way or another, the timing of this firing seems to indicate that the relationship between Gettleman and the ownership in Carolina wasn't the best.

"Its Okay! Dave I know how you feel".
