London acid attacks: Police investigate four 'linked' incidents

TWO men carried out five brutal acid attacks in London within a terrifying 90 minute period last night leaving one victim with life-changing injuries.

The attackers threw corrosive substances in people's faces in Stoke Newington and Hackney, police said.

The man was taken to an east London hospital for treatment.

"The males threw a corrosive substance in the victim's face, with one stealing his moped and the other making off on the moped they arrived on".

His injuries were not life-threatening, police said.

Five attacks were launched, with one man arrested on suspicion of robbery and GBH - Met police have said.

The final assault was reported to police at 11.37pm local time, with a man confronted as he sat on his moped in traffic in Clapton.

Police said the attackers pulled up to four men and doused them with the corrosive liquid in four separate attacks between 10.25pm and 11.37pm.

Twenty minutes later, at 10.50pm, another victim had been sprayed with searing liquid by the pair on the Upper Street junction with Highbury Corner, Islington.

Police and ambulances on Hackney/Queensbridge Road in London.

"Officers attended and found a man suffering from facial injuries".

The force said in a statement: "Inquiries are ongoing and officers from Hackney CID are investigating".

Sky News wrote that the police are treated all of the attacks as linked and have called for witnesses to come forward to assist with their investigations.

John Tomlin appeared at Thames Magistrates' Court on Tuesday charged with two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent.

London has experienced a spate of acid attacks in recent months.

A mass acid attack has also previously hit the capital this year.
