RuneScape and Old School RuneScape are coming to mobile devices

Jagex goes mobile as RuneScape comes to smartphone and tablets

Old School RuneScape will be released something this winter, while RuneScape will be released in 2018.

RuneScape is a game that needs no introduction - ever since it redefined the Massively Multiplayer Online RPG genre upon its release in 2001, Jagex's fantasy opus has captivated an entire generation with its immersive yet accessible adventure action. There are separate forms you need to fill out for both Old School RuneScape and regular RuneScape, so make sure you submit the right one.

We know that Old School RuneScape will be the first to reap the benefits of these advancements this winter, with RuneScape to follow soon thereafter.

Who-da-thunk-it, Jagex has today announced that their iconic MMORPG RuneScape and it's Old School spin-off will be coming to mobile, but not as some basic mobile game, as the complete MMO experience.

"As a MMO player, you ideally want to play at any time of the day or night no matter where you are".

"This is a real step change for MMORPGs and a signal of Jagex's intent to continue to push the boundaries of live games", said Phil Mansell, Chief Operating Officer, Jagex.

Developer Jagex is describing the new feature as "full interoperable play between PC and mobile", meaning that you'll be able to quit playing on your desktop, pick up your mobile device (when that version releases later this year) and continue on from precisely where you left off, with your character and progress fully intact.

Though Runescape's numbers may have dwindled in recent years, it could be this branching to mobile is just what the game needs to bring back players. "Our innovative approach to mobile is also evidence of our ambitions in the mobile sector, and a further indication of our investment in extending the RuneScape franchise to additional devices and territories".
