3-Year-Old Died in a Daycare Van, Driver Arrested

On Thursday, day care officials said the employee, who has not been named, was not authorized to drive the van.The worker was sacked after the incident, and is expected to face charges in Myles' death, the report says.

Just last month, Little Miracle's Academy was cited by the Florida Department of Children and Families for not properly logging the destination time, arrival time, destination location and departure location when children were being transported. Thornton reportedly apologized to Myles' family in her first public appearance since his death on Monday.

Orlando police received a call at 8:30 p.m.in connection with a possible child neglect case at Little Miracles Academy at 900 Plymouth Ave., Sgt. Eduardo Bernal said. Police say he had been inside the van for almost 12 hours.

Myles Hill was found dead in the van on Monday, police said, after St. Charles allegedly used the vehicle to transport a group of children from one of the facility's locations to the other. A medical examiner has called the death an accident, listing its cause as hyperthermia as a result of environmental exposure. Two other children were sitting on the bench seat with Myles, St. Charles told police. The driver admitted to "not doing a head count". According to the warrant, St. Charles turned over the payment for Myles' child care, left the facility and drove back to the original location. St. Charles then handed several supplies to some of the children, closed the back of the van and walked into the day care.

"(We) said, 'Gone where?' And she pointed at the van", Livingston told News 6.

The driver of a daycare van has been charged in the death of a 3-year-old Florida boy. Myles was marked present Monday when he wasn't actually in class.

More than 100 people gathered to remember a 3-year-old Florida boy who was found dead in a van parked outside his day care center. Temperatures hit 93 degrees on Monday.

The next day, police conducted tests to determine how hot the inside of the van had gotten when Hill was inside it. Myles' grandmother, Brenda Watts, also paid St. Charles for Myles' child care. Jail records didn't list an attorney. Instead, he was found dead Monday night and police say he had been inside the van for almost 12 hours. The logs merely showed pickup times and signatures from the child's guardian, and did not include the driver or second employee's signature verifying that they conducted the vehicle sweep, according to the affidavit.
