Anthony Scaramucci: President Trump Should Have Called the Charlottesville Rally Terrorism

Anthony Scaramucci Colbert

In his first interview since his public ouster from the White House, Scaramucci told ABC's George Stephanopoulos that he would have advised Trump to make a more direct statement against white nationalism.

As clashes broke out between white nationalist groups and counter-protesters in downtown Charlottesville on Saturday, Trump said "many sides" were responsible for the violence that would leave three dead and dozens more injured.

'I wouldn't have recommended that statement, ' said Scaramucci, who held his White House position for just 10 days.

"I think there are elements inside of Washington, also inclusive in the White House, that are not necessarily abetting the president's interests or his agenda", he added.

Scaramucci went on to applaud Trump's National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster for calling it terrorism. I think he's also of the impression that there is hatred on all sides, but I disagree with it. The president is going to do what he wants to do, how he wants to do it. Furthermore, Trump's advisers are "reluctant to tell him the truth", he said.

Asked by Stephanopoulos whether that included Bannon, Scaramucci said, "Well, yes".

During his brief time working for the US President, Mr Scaramucci turned the White House upside down. "Maybe Ivanka would do that ... maybe Jared [Kushner] would do that", he said.

"Whether it's domestic or worldwide terrorism, with the moral authority of the presidency, you have to call that stuff out", he added.

"What happens in Washington.is the president is not a representative of the political establishment class, so for whatever reason the people have made a decision that they want to eject him", Mr Scaramucci said.

"He wrote the article like I was unhinged and overly emotional and bombastic", Scaramucci said of Lizza. "I think the president knows what he's going to do". And so we're on live television, and so I would prefer to let the president make the decisions that the president needs to make.
