Arsenal host Leicester in season opener

Manchester United reject Tottenham bid for Anthony Martial on the eve of Premier League opener

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud has told Arsene Wenger he'd like to be starting more games after netting a late victor in tonight's 4-3 thriller against Leicester City.

"The quality of their players, their fan base and the money that they can spend, they've always been risky", Leicester manager Craig Shakespeare said.

Petr Cech was shaky on Leicester's first and second goals.

The atmosphere began to turn sour at the Emirates but thankfully for the Gunners faithful, Danny Welbeck chipped the ball into the net after some neat build up play from Arsenal.

Wenger said yesterday that Sanchez sustained an abdominal strain on Sunday - hours before Arsenal's win over Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley Stadium - and will be out for "two weeks or one more week".

However, Maguire was there to block his shot after Mesut Ozil's cutback after more intricate passing around Leicester's box.

Jamie Vardy was adjudged the Man of the Match in the game.

Arsenal shipped three goals but were without arguably three of their first-choice defenders as Per Mertesacker, Laurent Koscielny and Shkodran Mustafi all sat out due to a combination of fitness and suspension. And they will certainly buy more.

The Ramsey-Giroud rescue act spared Arsenal from a fourth season-opening defeat in 5 campaigns and enabled Wenger to start the season with victory for only the second time in 8 years.

Five minutes added time can Arsenal hold on or Leicester will get a share of the spoils at the Emirates??

Alexis Sanchez was unavailable for his side's first game of the new season with an abdominal strain. "When you are not completely in or the players feel you are not completely in, it is hard to tell them we go (out to win)".

Positioned in between the two Foxes centre-backs, the Frenchman expertly guided Mohamed Elneny's driven pass/cross past the outstretched dive of Kasper Schmeichel to become the fifth player to score on his Premier League debut for Arsenal under Wenger.

The 23-year-old used fantastic pace and impressive technique to regularly have a go at striking the target, but was unsuccessful.

It seemed like both teams were itching to get on the pitch to score goals.
