Barca plans to sign Coutinho rocked by Liverpool rejection

Jurgen Klopp

Barcelona is looking for a replacement for Neymar, who was sold to Paris Saint-Germain for a world-record fee of 222 million euros ($262 million) last week.

Coutinho is one of four Liverpool players, along with Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Daniel Sturridge, who will miss the Watford game through injury although Klopp said Sturridge should be fit for Hoffenheim.

But Coutinho responded to Liverpool's stance by declaring his intentions via email to head for the exit.

"The club's definitive stance is that no offers for Philippe will be considered and that he will remain a member of Liverpool Football Club when the summer window closes".

Liverpool's owner went public with that resolve yesterday when it issued a statement that reflected what Klopp has said repeatedly about Coutinho's future.

"I think I have said it already a few times, but maybe that's not 100 percent clear".

Liverpool say that Brazil midfielder Philippe Coutinho is "definitively" not for sale.

As far as he is concerned, though, a line has been drawn and a close family member was quoted as saying: 'Philippe has tried very hard to find an amicable solution to this situation but to no avail. Liverpool don't want to sell Emre Can.

The former Inter Milan player, who joined Liverpool from the Serie A side for £8.5m in 2013, signed a new five-year deal in January that did not include a buy-out clause.

Liverpool had problems navigating the so called "lesser" sides during what was a disjointed season, but this is a ideal opportunity to not only get the campaign off on the right foot, but also to show that they won't be bulled by teams looking to choke the life out of their game.

Klopp said the Reds were not "a selling club" when Barca's previous £72m offer was rejected in July.

Coutinho scored 13 goals in 31 league appearances for Liverpool last season to help the club qualify for the Champions League.
