Carmelo Anthony Won't Waive No-Trade Clause for Pelicans

Anthony had an earlier interest in waiving his no-trade for Cleveland, but that desire waned with Paul's arrival in Houston and the upheaval surrounding Kyrie Irving's and LeBron James' futures with the Cavaliers. The veteran forward has let NY know that he does not want to return this season, and he is using his no-trade clause as leverage to force his way to the only team on his "list" of preferred destinations, Houston.

The New York Knicks and have re-opened trade talks with the Houston Rockets for All-Star swingman Carmelo Anthony, discussing a potential third team partner to facilitate a deal, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. NY wants to go young, and Houston has had trouble coming up with appealing assets in exchange for Anthony, causing both squads to look for help from another team.

The Rockets are trying to get someone to take Ryan Anderson, but it won't be easy with $60 million left on his deal.

As odd as it might be, though, the deal is not almost as far along as it was when Phil Jackson was the team president for the Knicks.

Wojnarowski reported that Perry "has been far more particular about the package he'd want in return for Anthony".

Nevertheless, an National Basketball Association source told The Post that Anthony has told the Knicks he would not agree to waive his no-trade clause for New Orleans.

Carmelo Anthony trade discussions are reportedly picking up again. ESPN reports a deal might not happen until the start of the regular season. So, while trading for Anthony would make the Rockets really exciting to watch and the second-best team in the Wester Conference (at least on paper), doing so probably would decimate their depth to the point where winning a championship isn't a realistic goal.
