Chelsea to make £27 million bid for Leicester City midfielder

Arsenal v Leicester City- Premier League

Danny Drinkwater may be forced to remain at Leicester City as Chelsea have not returned with a fresh bid for the midfielder, according to a report from the Telegraph. Drinkwater has been left in the dark over his future, but Chelsea are preparing a second offer that is likely to be worth over £25m for the 27-year-old.

Although Chelsea have brought in Tiemoue Bakayoko to replace their Serbian midfielder, they are well short of numbers on the bench, with just 14 experienced players available.

Should Drinkwater move to Stamford Bridge, he would be reunited with former Leicester team mate N'Golo Kante with whom he had a sparkling partnership with during Leicester's title winning campaign in 2015/16.

A new central midfielder to replace Nemanja Matic following his £40m move to Manchester United is a priority and Drinkwater has emerged as a prime target in recent weeks.

The same article states that Chelsea had a bid of around £15m rejected by Leicester City this month as Antonio Conte looks to bolster his midfield options this summer.

Shakespeare's first match as permanent Leicester manager will see the 2015-16 Premier League champions travel to Arsenal on Friday.

Law wrote Chelsea will make a second offer for Drinkwater as part of a plan to sign up to three players before this summer's transfer window closes on August 31. Cancelo and Aurier are a few names of interest as the Blues also have their eyes on Southampton center-back Virgil Van-Dijk (and might soon submit and offer for him).
