Coutinho Shocks Liverspool FC, Hands In Transfer Request

Steven-Gerrard-LA-Galaxy

According to Sky Sports, the player has handed in an official transfer request ahead of the season starting this weekend, but Liverpool still says it isn't selling.

Despite looking elsewhere, there is certainly unfinished business between Barcelona, Liverpool and Coutinho in this transfer window, and this afternoon's news will improve the likelihood of them securing the signature of their number one transfer target.

Liverpool will not sell Philippe Coutinho at whatever price this season, the club's owners have insisted.

One respectable English media source the Independent, are of the opinion that Barcelona are set to switch their intentions to another 25-year-old performing in the English Premier League.

In a statement on Friday, the club's owners said its "definitive stance" was that "no offers will be considered".

"If FSG is saying something like this, then that's the statement".

With the signing of Mohamed Salah, Liverpool will look to call upon the trio of he, Coutinho and Sadio Mané as consistent attacking options in 2017-18.

Barcelona want Coutinho to replace Neymar following his compatriot's world-record €222 million (S$357 million) transfer to Paris Saint-Germain earlier this month. "I've said it already a few times, but maybe it's not been 100% clear, but now you can read it - maybe that's the difference!", he said.

After a series of conflicting reports, on Friday it has been reported that Coutinho has indeed officially requested a move away from Anfield.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp at Aviva Stadium, Dublin, Ireland, August 5.

Asked if he had to take special measures to keep Coutinho happy, Klopp said: "I can't always keep people or players happy".

The family member added: "There are things that have happened, there is not the same bond".

Barcelona can discuss personal terms with Coutinho, but in the end that will not matter because they will still have to convince Liverpool to part ways with their best player.

"It's not about this, Phil is not available for us, that's the biggest issue that he's not available to play".
