Deadpool's Tim Miller Will Direct the Neuromancer Movie

Neuromancer movie gets greenlight with Deadpool's Tim Miller behind it

According to Deadline, Deadpool director Tim Miller has signed on to direct Hollywood's long-gestating adaptation of William Gibson's Neuromancer.

Neuromancer tells the story of Henry Dorsett Case, a computer hacker taking refuge in Chiba City, Japan after stealing from his employer.

The novel helped establish Gibson as one of the genre's best writers, and has been particularly influential for not only setting the tone of gritty, cyberpunk dystopias, but also popularizing the term "cyberspace" itself. Within the novel's dystopian world, most people are plugged into the virtual reality, with those living in "reality" residing in an collection of urban dwellings known as The Sprawl.

Neuromancer has been credited with popularising the word "cyberspace", which Gibson coined in his 1982 novelette Burning Chrome. However, despite various attempts over the years it's never been brought to the big screen (indeed Gibson's idiosyncratic style means few of his stories have).

Simon Kinberg, who worked with the Deadpool director and is helming the new X-Men film, is set to produce the cyberpunk film.

More news: Stock markets extend losses at open

Miller has already got various other movies in development since he left the Deadpool sequel over creative difference last October.

Certainly, this feels like a far more solid project for Miller to be working on than a Sonic the Hedgehog film.

Miller is now busy on a new instalment in the Terminator franchise, with James Cameron serving in an advisory capacity, after dropping out of Deadpool 2 due to creative differences with star Ryan Reynolds.

Miller is the latest filmmaker to be attached to a potential Neuromancer movie.

Coming from a background in visual effects, Tim Miller's strength has always been big, eye-catching spectacles that make the audience sit up and pay attention.
