Derek Wolfe injured on final day of Broncos Training Camp

Broncos defensive lineman out for the season

	Henry Chisholm

Though he was carted off the field and taken to the trainer's room without being able to put weight on his injured leg, the Broncos do not deem the ankle injury as something serious.

"Great news, " said Broncos cornerback Aqib Talib. "Hopefully, it's not serious and it's just a sprain".

Wolfe was selected by the Broncos in the second round of the 2012 NFL Draft and he's been an a starter for them ever since.

The vaunted Denver defense can not afford to absorb any more serious injury blows. His backup Shaq Barrett will miss more time because of a hip injury. Nose tackle Billy Winn was lost for the season after he tore an ACL last week.

Safety T.J. Ward has not been active due to a hamstring injury. He will get another shot to stick on a practice squad here with the Broncos, where he has three preseason games and all of the remaining practices to try and make an impact.

Wolfe appeared to suffer the injury during an 11-on-11 play early in practice. As one of the main cogs in their defensive line, Wolfe has racked up 100 tackles and 11 sacks in the past two seasons.

Until Wolfe is completely healthy, the Broncos will be down to Jared Crick, Zach Kerr, Adam Gotsis, Domata Peko, Tyrique Jarrett, Shakir Soto and Shelby Harris on the defensive line. The team will travel to San Francisco on Tuesday to begin joint practices with the 49ers ahead of their August 19 preseason game.
