Disney to stop showing its movies on Netflix

Disney will ditch Netflix in 2019 and launch its own streaming service

It is this technology that will under gird the new Disney children's streaming service, and also allow for the launch of an ESPN streaming service in early 2018.

The service will feature approximately "10,000 live regional, national, and worldwide games and events a year, including Major League Baseball, National Hockey League, Major League Soccer, Grand Slam tennis, and college sports".

"This represents a big strategic shift for the company", Disney CEO Bob Iger told CNBC.

Disney has acquired control of BAMtech, a streaming specialist originally started by the United States baseball league, to support its sports venture.

Disney's cable networks, such as ESPN, make up the majority of the company's earnings.

The #Walt Disney Company has made a surprising announcement as they finally talked about launching their own streaming services in 2019.

A Netflix rep said the news doesn't affect the deal it has with Disney for the Marvel TV shows such as Luke Cage, Daredevil, and The Defenders.

Disney and Pixar titles will be removed from Netflix, with this new service serving as the home for all Disney movies going forward. It's even possible that they'll strike a new deal to license those movies to Netflix or another streaming service, he says: "It's all in discussion".

Its online entertainment service will the launch the following year, and will feature upcoming films from Disney studios and Pixar, including Toy Story 4 and Frozen 2, as well as exclusive TV and film content.

Disney wants in on the video streaming market, and their first step in creating their own platform is to cut ties with Netflix.

Yesterday, Disney said it will be pulling its movies from Netflix and will launch a Disney streaming service of its own in 2019.

Right now, Disney is one of the world's most successful content-creation companies, producing media across a range of genres, through any number of wildly successful subsidiaries and brand licenses.

Disney will pay $1.58 billion to acquire an additional 42 percent stake in BAMTech from MLB Advanced Media, upping its total stake in the streaming technology firm to 75 percent. And there are so many these days, you might end up spending about as much as you would for cable service.
