Dortmund suspend forward Dembele for missing training

Ousmane Dembele may have taken another step closer to securing his move to Barcelona after the Frenchman was suspended by Borussia Dortmund.

Armed with an extra £198 million following Neymar's sale to Paris Saint-Germain, the Catalan giants are on the market for a direct replacement for the Brazilian worldwide as well as a high-profile addition to the squad.

Dembele has had his Borussia Dortmund suspension extended indefinitely, the club have confirmed.

However, with Dembele recently going AWOL from team training, deciding instead to remain in Paris in order to force a move to the Camp Nou through, with BVB manager Peter Bosz confirming that Dembele was not in training, during a press conference on Thursday.

And Dortmund have now made the decision not to lift the suspension on Dembele, with Sporting director Michael Zorc telling Dortmund's website: 'Our focus now is on a concentrated preparation of the team for the Bundesliga opening match against Wolfsburg in the coming weekend. Chelsea must spend, spend, spend! "Ousmane has the option to train individually apart from the group".

The Bundesliga club said on Sunday it would keep Dembele's ban for missing training in place after the player was told he was initially suspended until after Saturday's first round German Cup tie against amateurs Rielasingen-Arlen.

Dembele scored 10 goals and supplied 20 assists in 49 games in his debut season with Dortmund. "Whatever happens, happens. It's a hard situation".
