Glasses cam shows moment SC police officer shot in neck

The footage was used in the trial against Orr and he was handed a 35-year prison sentence on Wednesday

Malcolm Antwan Orr, 29, was found guilty Wednesday of attempted murder and possession of a weapon after he shot a police officer on New Year's Day in 2016 - and the officer's glasses caught it all on camera. Smith walked toward Orr, who was seen defying the officer's orders to stop.

Horrifying footage has been released showing the moment a police who had been shot at several times asking a dispatcher to "tell my family I love them" in what he believed would be his final words.

Officer Quincy Smith was shot four times by Orr when he was responding to a call. Orr was walking with his back to the officer and one hand holding a cellphone to his ear. Smith threatened Orr with a taser gun if he refused to remove his hands from his pockets.

The footage picked up from Smith's glasses camera helped to convict the man who nearly killed him. Initially, the police said Smith was sacked three times; but it was later found that eight bullets were fired at him. Orr was sentenced Thursday to 35 years in prison. The incident was captured on Smith's eyeglasses camera, which he had just purchased on Amazon.

Officer Quincy Smith, of the Estill Police Department, managed to survive that fateful day last January after suffering two broken arm bones and a "life threatening" neck injury, according to Hampton County officials.

"If but not for the grace of God and some very good doctors, this would not only have been a murder case, but a death penalty case", said Stone. Smith scrambles to the patrol auto to alert his dispatch. After spotting a man matching the description, Smith got out of his vehicle and ordered the suspect - later identified as Malcolm Antwan Orr - to stop. Smith tried to threaten the man with his stun gun. A bullet also went through Smith's upper torso and was extracted from his back.

However, Orr took out the weapon, a 9mm handgun, and fired at Smith.

"I am hit. I am hit in my neck some place", he says.

A jury deliberated for less than 45 minutes before delivering the guilty verdict, the news release said.
