Marlins reportedly sign agreement to sell team to Jeter-led group

Jeter poised to take the next step

Jeter and Jordan (along with NY businessman Bill Sherman) are a part of the 16 investors looking to purchase MLB's Miami Marlins. The club has not confirmed the reports, although ESPN said the deal is likely to be announced "in the coming days".

Jeter would a limited partner in the group led by venture capitalist Bruce Sherman. The group is comprised of 16 investors with Jeter reportedly contributing about $25 million.

Sherman is being designated the control person, but he's 69 and it isn't clear how much day-to-day involvement he seeks.

Jordan, who will be just a minority owner, joined the original bid of Jeter's.

Jorge Mas will not be part of the Jeter group, Samson also confirmed on Saturday.

But for most Marlins fans, just punting Loria out the door is a victory in and of itself. He funded his purchase through the sale of the Montreal Expos to Major League Baseball for the price of $120 million and covered the remaining $38 million through a loan by Major League Baseball. The Marlins haven't been to the postseason since 2003, and ranked last in the National League in attendance 11 of the past 12 years. Bush.
