NBC to Resurrect "The Munsters"

'The Munsters' Reboot In Works At NBC From Jill Kargman & Seth Meyers

Set in a spooky mansion at the fictional suburban California address of 1313 Mockingbird Lane in Mockingbird Heights, The Munsters was a sitcom staple for CBS-TV viewers for three seasons from 1964-1967, and repeats have run in recent years in syndication. Now, it appears that the promise NBC's chief Bob Greenblatt made in 2013 to bring The Munsters back is finally happening. Regardless of your feelings of the concept, Variety has confirmed that Seth Meyers is producing another reboot of The Munsters.

Kargman will write the script and will executive produce with Sethmaker Shoemeyers Productions' Meyers and Mike Shoemaker. That, of course, leads us to the next question: who will fill the shoes of Fred Gwynne as Herman Munster? The the project never became a full-fledged series, the big-budget pilot episode - directed by Bryan Singer and starring Jerry O'Connell as Herman Munster, Portia de Rossi as Lily, Eddie Izzard as Grandpa and Charity Wakefield as Marilyn - aired as a Halloween special. But that does not mean that there are not any lovable giants out there that might be a more suitable candidate for the Munster role.

The first attempt at rebooting The Munsters on NBC failed, and some say it was because they attempted to turn the show into an hour-long comedy.

There's darn, darn, darn good news for fans of The Munsters. In the last few years, reboots or revivals of Heroes, X-Files, Prison Break, 24, Will & Grace, and Roseanne have all gone into production with various levels of success.
