No golden ending as Farah signs off with Worlds silver

Bolt defeat proves'anything is possible, says 5,000m favourite Farah

The 34-year-old, who won the 10,000m eight days earlier, finished in 13minutes 33.22 seconds as Muktar Edris won in 13:32.79.

Farah's last defeat in a global championships was the 10,000m at the worlds in Daegu, Korea, on August 28th six years ago.

Edris won in 13 minutes, 33.79 seconds, .43 seconds ahead of Farah in second.

Farah narrowly missed out on a remarkable fifth consecutive major championships distance double in London but don't say he settled for silver.

In the end, it was a tremendous race as Edris, Farah, Paul Kipkemoi Chelimo and Yomif Kejelcha separated themselves from the field on the back straight of an exhilarating final lap.

Mo Farah won silver in the 5,000m final here at the London Stadium on Saturday night to leave the track in disappointment.

"Tactically, they worked as a team", said Farah. "I think I have gained a lot of experience after this race", he added. I would have loved to have seen Usain win but at this level no-one is going to give it you, no matter who you are. "It didn't quite hit home until I took a few moments to myself where I realised this is it".

"There's more need for us to demonstrate that we have some incredible talent, but the athletes have also got to realise that they've also got a sizeable part to play in this". Farah sat in third entering the final 400 meters, but he visibly struggled with the pace and couldn't overtake the Ethiopian victor.

But after the race, almost all of the attention went to Farah.

Everyone had expected the British distance runner to win gold but he was beaten by Muktar Edris of Ethiopia.

Johnson-Thompson tried to tap into the wave of emotion for Farah making her final attempt after the 5,000 race had started, but despite her efforts could not clear the bar.

Farah will now move on to concentrate on marathon running.
