OnePlus 3/3T won't receive any major software update following Android O

OnePlus Confirms Android O is Last Big Update for OP3/3T ...

Things could have probably been different if OnePlus would have said these two smartphones will stay on Android Marshmallow in the first place.

OnePlus confirms that Android O will be the last major update to the OnePlus 3 and 3T. After the 3 and 3T get the O update, the Open Beta Program will be "moving" to the OnePlus 5.

Considering the OnePlus 3 was released in June of a year ago, this is pretty weak.

Well, this is clearly not good news for the OnePlus 3/3T owners.

The first question starts off by asking why the OnePlus 5 has received more updates since it was released than the OP3/3T has had during that same time frame. We'll continue to release security patch updates for the foreseeable future, and offer support for individual application updates.

In the meantime, that Open Beta Program will be the home to a "fast loop" of sorts when it comes to new features being placed on the 2015 phones. Some of this may be due to the company using an older SoC for a smartphone they just released (the OnePlus X in this case), while they say others are because of their premature software team at the time (the OnePlus 2 in this case). Therefore, it's safe to assume that the new firmware will hit the OnePlus 3 and 3T before the year end.

During the Q&A, OnePlus also announced that it plans to push the August security patches to the OnePlus 3 and OnePlus 3T very soon.

The OnePlus 2, from the class of 2015, were initially supposed to receive Android Nougat, but were recently designated to be forever stuck on Android Marshmallow instead.
