Premier League: Sam Vokes hails Burnley's 'massive win' against defending champions Chelsea

Antonio Conte coaches Chelsea versus Arsenal in the Premier League

How bad was it? So yeah, it wasn't good. The Clarets will be as tough as ever, but all signs point towards the Blues taking the three points.

Morata make his presence felt straightaway, getting Chelsea's first goal of the afternoon before teeing up David Luiz for the second.

Antonio Conte stressed the need throughout the summer for Chelsea to hit the ground running this season but supporters were left with a sense of Deja vu after their first half against Burnley. However, it took just 10 minutes for Burnley to go ahead, courtesy of Sam Vokes.

Stephen Ward doubled Burnley's advantage in the 39th minute before Vokes added his second in the 43rd minute.

Morata thought he had a second soon after but his strike was chalked off for offside and Chelsea's chances of fighting back appeared to be over when Cesc Fabregas received a second yellow card on 81 minutes. It's clear that at the level at which Burnley currently remains, it will be extremely difficult to compete at least for the European Cup places, not to mention the competition for the championship.

"I think Alvaro has good space to improve, he's working very well and working very hard to quickly find good fitness and adapt himself to our style of football".

Speaking on Morata, manager Antonio Conte said, "He's starting to understand what I want from him during the game".

Chelsea are no stranger to bad title defenses, having finished 10th the season after their last triumph.

"The sending off of Cahill was a key moment, because to play the rest of the game with 10 and then nine men is not easy", said Conte.

The result is also the first time Chelsea has lost an opening league game of the season since 1998.

Chelsea will be without the injured duo Eden Hazard and Tiemoue Bakayoko as they welcome Burnley beginning their title defence.
