Trump takes credit for "stronger" U.S. nuclear arsenal

Stephen Colbert pleads with Trump to 'shut up' about North Korea

She has also criticized Trump's national security adviser, H. R. McMaster, for saying last week that if North Korea "had nuclear weapons that can threaten the United States, it's intolerable from the president's perspective".

High-ranking officials within the Trump administration have been scrambling since Tuesday evening to contain the fallout that resulted from Trump's remarks, which were reportedly improvised.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson says he doesn't believe there is "any imminent threat" from North Korea, including to the USA territory of Guam.

"I think that the president, again, as commander-in-chief, I think he felt it necessary to issue a very strong statement directly to North Korea", he added. He said Kim Jong Un's regime should listen to and "act on that clarity".

The suggestion that Trump has enhanced US nuclear firepower was immediately disputed by experts, who noted no progress under Trump's presidency.

The threatened attack near Guam, if carried out, would be the North's most provocative missile launch to date. "Defusing the North Korea threat will take smart, steady leadership and stronger diplomatic ties with our key allies".

Still, he declined to say whether the U.S.is considering a pre-emptive military strike, arguing that his administration never discusses such deliberations publicly. Taking it a step further, Japan's Defense Minister Itsunori Onodera told parliament a missile attack on the US territory would be a Japanese national emergency because it would threaten Japan's existence as a nation. In an exchange of threats, President Donald Trump warned Pyongyang of "fire and fury like the world has never seen" and the North's military claimed today it was examining plans for attacking Guam.

En route home from a trip to Asia, Secretary of State Rex Tillerson assured Americans not to worry.

"Americans should sleep well at night", Tillerson told reporters.

An analysis from the Defense Intelligence Agency also found that the country will produce intercontinental ballistic missiles capable of hitting the continental U.S.

The release detailed a number of potential issues with traveling to North Korea, including the lack of United States diplomatic services, the country's system of law enforcement and risk of detention for crimes such as criticizing the leadership, possessing material critical of the government, or taking unauthorized photographs.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said "reckless rhetoric is not a strategy to keep America safe".
