Trump's unjustified boast about U.S. nuke power

As North Korea continues to develop it nuclear capabilities, President Donald Trump tweeted that the US has modernized its own nuclear arsenal and is prepared to use it if necessary. Last month, North Korea successfully tested two intercontinental ballistic missiles that are believed to be capable of striking parts of the U.S.

Less than a day after US President Donald Trump threatened North Korea with "fire and fury" and a few hours after North Korea threatened back with talk of an attack on Guam, the president issued another backhanded warning to the isolated state. He said that if the threats do not cease, the country will face consequences.

However, when talking about North Korea this week, Trump's statement threatening North Korea "with fire and fury like the world has never seen" is nothing to joke about.

He echoed his tough stance against North Korea in a series of tweets August 9, according to The Hill.

However, according to an article in the Boston Globe, quoting an expert in the realm of presidential power, Trump has nearly "unchecked authority to order the use of conventional or nuclear weapons against North Korea". It is now far stronger and more powerful than ever before. My book, "Earthism", made the point that America's enormous nuclear arsenal was built with the premise that we would never use it. While Mr Trump said the nuclear arsenal was more powerful than ever before, USA officials say it takes decades to actually modernise nuclear weapons, a move already under way under former president Barack Obama's administration, and there are treaties that regulate nuclear expansion.

On Jan. 27, Trump made an executive order to create the Nuclear Posture Review, which will analyze the U.S.' nuclear capabilities.

But the review isn't complete.
