During the interview, Ansari talked about a range of issues, including the attacks on Africans in India, the functioning of the Rajya Sabha and his relationship with two Presidents - Pratibha Patil and Pranab Mukherjee - and Prime Ministers Manmohan Singh and Narendra Modi.

President Ramnath Kovind administered the oath of office to Naidu, 68, at a brief ceremony in the Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan attended by political leaders cutting across party lines.

Ansari in an interview to veteran journalist Karan Thapar said that there's a "feeling of unease among Muslims" in this day and age, and the "ambience of acceptance [is] under threat".

Speaking to the media, Mr Naidu said: "Some people are saying the minorities are insecure. Also, what Naidu has said is true- saying that this was nothing but a "political propaganda" is absolutely correct". "Compared to the entire world, minorities are more safe and secure in India and they get their due".

BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya questioned if Ansari was looking for "political shelter" after retirement.

M Venkaiah Naidu was today sworn in as the 15th Vice-President of India.

Vice President Ansari was at his office for the last time on Thursday.

"We will always have memories of you as the Chair and how you lent dignity to the quality of debates in this House while presiding over it", said Jaitley.

He also referred to the pledge adopted at a special session of Parliament on the occasion of the golden jubilee of Independence to make his point about the need for the House to run smoothly.

"Appeasement for none justice for all", Naidu said and added that history has proved that there has been no discrimination against minorities.

When asked about the Supreme Court order making it mandatory to play the national anthem before every film screening, and the more recent Madras High Court ruling on the "Vande Mataram", Ansari said: "The courts are a part of society".

"What is a career diplomat I understood after becoming the Prime Minister".

He also lauded Ansari's initiative of starting the Rajya Sabha TV channel. Is there a sense of insecurity amongst Indian Muslims?

"You are a career diplomat". Your paternal grandfather as well as maternal grandfather happened to be presidents of Congress and also served as members of the Constituent Assembly. He has made political comments as he is retiring.

In the Rajya Sabha on Thursday, rich tributes were paid to Ansari. "I am an Indian and that is it".
