Yadav loses his job as JD(U) leader in the Rajya Sabha

Sharad Yadav Bihar CM Nitish Kumar JD, Janata Dal United New Delhi Indian Express news

If he keeps a different opinion, then he is free to do so, Nitish had told reporters after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He tweeted that yesterday JD (U) Chief Nitish Kumar had visited him at his residence and he invited him to join JD (U) with NDA. All eyes are now on the National Executive meeting, to be held on August 19. Yadav had publicly opposed the JD (U)-BJP alliance in Bihar, saying the people of the state voted for the Grand Alliance.

Lantern is the poll symbol of Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).

The JD (U) has 10 MPs in the Rajya Sabha, and two in the Lok Sabha.

Senior Janata Dal (United) leader Sharad Yadav was sacked as party's leader in the Rajya Sabha on Saturday for his public disapproval of Bihar chief minister Nitish Kumar's decision to quit the Mahagathbandhan and re-join the BJP led alliance.

A day earlier, Nitish had suspended party deputy leader Ali Anwar Ansari in the Rajya Sabha for attending a meeting of Opposition parties, convened by Congress chief Sonia Gandhi.

However, he said that Yadav has not been removed from the party.

The party handed over a formal letter to vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu, informing him that from now on Singh would replace Yadav as parliamentary party leader in the RS.

The cracks in JD (U) have now become so big that it would be impossible to save the structure.

Yadav remained unfazed, asserting that the JD (U) "belonged to him and not just to Kumar". Nitish said the decision has been taken by the party and Sharad should accept it. "Now Bihar will progress at a very fast pace", he said.

Hitting out at Bitish, Anwar said that people who brought the party to its glory were being "removed" from party posts.

On Saturday, Sharad Yadav shot back at Nitish Kumar.

The JD (U) spokesperson alleged that Sharad Yadav won from Madhepura with the BJP's support in 1999.

This was their first in-person interaction since Nitish reconfigured his government in Bihar to include the BJP last month.

On Thursday, Sharad Yadav had said that he was still with RJD, Congress-led Mahagathbandhan.
