As you may or may not have heard, Derrick Rose and “The Rose Family” have teamed up with ADIDAS for a series of webisodes on his rehab and the Return of Derrick Rose. More on Derrick Rose’s rehab.
The Return of Derrick Rose
The first video, entitled “Belief” (embedded below) launched this morning. It opens with a gray-scale shot of the fallen MVP, the fallen hero, the fallen “kid from Chicago”, clutching his knee at the end of the Game 1 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Rose’s monotone narrates the 2:55 first episode.
I was injured basically the whole year, so I’m thinkin’ like in the playoffs… I’m good. The first game of the playoffs… getting injured. The next game is back at home and I got to take the ball out to center court – in my hometown. When I tore my ACL, I [initially] didn’t think it was nothing big, so the whole time I’m in the MRI machine I’m just praying and crying and stuff hoping that it wasn’t tore. Think of your most downest day and times that by a hundred, that ain’t enough to describe how I felt at the time.
Rose explains how he was “almost walking regularly” and how weird it was that his leg was in such bad shape. Then we get into the true documentary portion, talking to doctors, and following Rose through the first part of his journey – surgery and the very first days of Derrick Rose’s rehab. This is unrivaled access to an athlete.
All I need is me, my friends, my city, and my fans. That’s it, that’s all I need. I want to be great.
